"Fishing Cape San Blas, St George Island, Apalachicola & Mexico Bech" Tarpon have began showing up along the beaches of Cape San Blas. The big push of fish should begin stacking up in West Pass within the next week. All signs point to an excellent year for the Silver King. Now if we can just get the winds to shut down for a while. Maybe a live sacrifice is in order. I can think of a few excellent candidates. LOL. The bay fishing has been the best it has been in years. All the species (Trout, Reds, Pompano, Spanish and Blues) are well represented. The Triple Tail bite is wide open. Some old timers say it is the best they have seen in 30 years. All in all, it is stacking up to be a great year. Hope you get tp join us. Please feel free to give me a call or shoot us an email if you have any questions. I hope we get to see you at the dock soon. 850-509-0573 Captain Keith Grimes
02/25/08 - Cape San Blas and St George Island Fishing
Water temps seem to have reached a recent plateau of 65-66 degrees (surf temp). That's great for late Feb. We are however expecting some cooler temps later this week that could drop those temps by a couple of degrees. That said, we still heading in the right direction. The fishing along the beaches of Cape San Blas, St George Island and Mexico Beach is still somewhat limited to Whiting with an occasional Redfish. The fishing on the bay side of St Vincent is red hot. Plenty of willing Reds and Trout. The flats along the eastern bay side of St George Island is also doing well with Reds. The Cape San Blas side of St Joe Bay is still showing some Redfish schools on those warm afternoons. The St Joe Bay flats are still a little too cool for the Trout. If we can get to that magic 70 degree mark we should start seeing the flood gates open for Cobia, Pompano, Blue Fish, Spanish, Trout, Reds etc. While an early spring is always possible and welcomed, the third week of March is usually when we see the spring rush of fish.
Water clarity is exceptional. We should have an excellent spring for sight fishing. If you have never actually watched a fish eat your bait, you have missed one of the most thrilling parts of fishing. If you have sight fished, you know what we mean when we say, it will stop your heart. Give us a call or shoot us an email so we can set aside a day on the water for you. Hope to see you soon.
